At the moment from Summit, you'd be looking at under 2500 to your door for AFR 165s, so when the dollar gets to 85c you'll be laughing.

I think the heads should flow enough for the power I'm after & with no 1/4 mile in Canberra there's not much point going to overboard.

Well after seven months the motor is finally back in the car. The rebuild was pretty pain free & the motor was still in good enough condition to use standard rings & bearings, in saying that two pistons were showing signs of oil on the tops & a welsh plug was only held together by a rust scab so the rebuild was just in time.
I ended up using perfect circle rings, Clevite bearings & comp cam lifters. The factory oil pump was showing signs of wear so that was replaced with a Milodon standard volume pump & a strengthened pump shaft. All up bottom end had new rings, bearings, welsh plugs, oil pump, lifters & cam installed. The heads have stayed as planned with the gt40p's getting crow double springs, push rods & Yella Terra 1.6 rockers installed. I'm starting to think a little head work should have been done but will wait and see once it's out in the street.
The btr 4 speed went in to get new gaskets & a check up after I swapped the eb pump for a el one, $1600 later I now have a rebuilt gearbox with Kevlar clutches, xr6 turbo band, new pump(The pump I fitted was stuffed) & the Au shift solenoid installed.
I wanted to replace my power steering pump as it has a habit of burning fluid, $800 exchange was the only price I got before looking to America, Jegs have then for $130 so I added a new Mallory's Billet distributor & e-coil to the Basket & still came in cheaper with postage then the pump alone here. Although the pump was not a straight swap for the old one with the cooling line plug going straight down instead of sideways & needed a small chunk of the power steering bracket removed & no A/C compressor in the way to work, but it was still worth it.
Start day is still a month or so away but better late than never.

Stuck with Genies & just did a gasket match port on them, I'm hoping they will work well enough with the gt40p's.

Thanks, it looks alot better than the rust coloured block i started with, as for the springs no machining was required, abit of a pain to fit but not to bad.

Nice work, Im thinking about getting a V8 ute soon because I have 2, 6's and a 4 cyl and I think it would be better if I had a 8,6 and a 4.

Which part of ACT are you? Im in Holt/ Belconnen area.

Fitted the oil cooler today which left no room for the trannie cooler, so had find a new place to mount it, which ended up being on the back of the thermo fans, should still get enough air to do its job.

Hey vegabass I'm in the Belco area as well so might see around, as for getting a V8 they are great fun & every garage needs at least one V8 in it.
