Sexyr6 heres one for you how many of these now im speaking 94/95 fairmont ecu will redline with every gear change fitted with a auto and just keep going till it runs out of leggs

Came across a couple of interesting V8 ECU's this week. I couldn't find any references to them on the www or any of my usual sources
4DEB = V8 auto EEC5 EF1 Fairmont Ghia. It was a very early ecu, dated April 1994. Someone had changed the box code to 4DED with a black pen. When I dumped the code, there were no usual code identifiers around hex address 19F00 and no "Copyright Ford Motor Co." around hex address 19F60. Perhaps this was some pre-release ecu that got used in a production car?? 4DKB = V8 auto EEC5 EF1 XR8. Another very early ecu dated April 1994. Again someone had changed the box code to 4DKE with a black pen. Haven't dumped the code on this one yet.

Well my NF 5.0 had a 4DEG, so would it be an earlier version as mine is Apr 95 build? and my bro-in-law's XR8 ex HWP has a 4DKF his is a 96 model EF II

The code in the 4DEB is identical to 4DED code (but 4DEE and onwards is different), except it is missing the usual Ford ID lines and the duplicate checksum at 1200A-B
I've now dumped the code from the 4DKB. It's also missing the usual Ford ID lines and the duplicate checksum at 1200A-B. I don't have an early 4DKx to compare, but it is different to my 4DKF. I don't expect the code to be anything spectacular though. I just though it was unusual that nobody had ever reported either of these before anywhere that I could find on the www. That someone had used a black biro to carefully over-write the code. And I got two through the workshop in a week.

Ok, xafalcon, is there much difference with the 4DKF to a "normal" 4DEG as when I put my mates 4DKF in the NF there seems to be quite a bit of difference, I know that the 4DKF was from an option whatever Highway patrol so I've been told there is no limiter, but it seems better across the range to me.

Interesting, Tristram.
I've seen a modified ECU before, from a Herrod supercharged EF. It had modified timing tables only. The only way to do this would be to desolder the flash ROM, reprogram it and reinstall it. I guess someone at Ford reused development ECUs and reflashed them with newer strategies? Cheers, Jason

I have an EB series 1 xr8
The car is a manual.. from your codes on page 1 it should be an auto right? the J3 port is open and looks like it has seen some action once apon a time? also has a uni chip attached.

Cheers, Jason Neither of the ecu's were electronically modified Jason, except with a ball point pen on the stickers. Someone had carefully changed the box code from a version B to a version D (4DEB to 4DED, $DKB to 4DKD), and the binaries didn't have that "Copyright Ford Motor Company" and the strategy version written into the code. Interestingly, the duplicate checksum at 1200A-B was also missing from the code of both of the ecus. All other EF-EL ecus I've read have all these features. The 4DEB "active" code however was identical to the 4DED, I didn't have an early 4DKD code to compare the other one with, but I would guess it's the same situation. I'm only guessing that these may have been pre-release versions. When was the EF launched? My references say Sept 94, these ecus were both programmed in April. This is an unusually long time to sit around in my experience

If you are using the 1DGA on a manual, you are in "torque truncation mode" aka transmission protection mode. The auto ecu's all need a tcm signal to avoid this. Without the signal about 10 degrees of timing is dropped to protect the auto transmission from damage. A carry over from the weak AOD trans fitted behind 5.0's in USA Lift the bonnet, look on the passengers side close to the gas strut. There should be a white sticker about 20 x 25mm. It will give the code of the original ecu fitted to the vehicle. Series 1 XR8's got 1DGA = auto, 1DFA = manual. Check the body tags, it will also list the transmission type originally fitted to the vehicle. Maybe someone converted auto to manual???

Sorry if this has already been answered, but whats the difference between a 6TBB (police spec EL xr6) to a normal xr6? Are there any differences in the actually car specs? thanks |
