Can anyone explain what a neutral switch does on the T5 gearbox? and I have a switch on the clutch pedal, does that go to the nuetral switch or is it something else. Its not cruise control switch as it has no vacuum hose fitting.I have a slight revving problem during gear change.
cheers

The clutch switch is for cruise control. It doesnt have a vac fitting. Mine doesnt anyway, its an AU though.

The clutch switch just stops the car from hitting the limiter when you clutch in while cruise is engaged. Ive done this. It scared the crap out of me. :P

The neutral switch on the gearbox tells the ECU that the car is in neutral so that it will start. The ECU wont let it start if it thinks it is in a drive gear for the autos.

Have you just done a manual conversion? Apparently there is another 2 wires that tell the ECU which gear the car is in. You need to place a resistor across it. I havent done this yet and the revs hang a bit on gearchanges.

ea had a switch on the clutch pedal which was connected inline with the neutral switch.
but it was deleted in eb2...
also ea-ed has vac line to another switch for cruise control

ef/el has a switch on the clutch pedal that is for cruise control and dont have vac lines as ef/el are not operated by vacuum like ea to ed....

According to the Ford workshop manual for EF-EL, the neutral switch is to tell the ECU to cancel decell fuel cut.

The cruise switch is as above, to cancel cruise control.
I used a clutch switch from an EA but had to move the magnet in the switch to get it to work with the EL as it needed to be N/O whereas the EA was N/C.
