Hey all, Yes i know i should have got an XR6 but i just didnt have the money :P

I currently have a stock XT other than a K&N air filter
Im wondering what can i do to get the most performance out of it and the cheapest ways of doing it.
Ive found online i can buy extractors with the hiflow cat bolt on, and sports exhausts pretty cheap. About $1200 all up. and i can install that myself as aparently its all Bolt on.
Has anyone done this before? it it as easy as bolt on?

Other than that i was thinking of getting it flash tuned. How much is it going to cost to get it tuned? If i get a 2nd hand ford capa flash tuner can they be reset at any dyno tuning place? or will i need to send it off to capa?

Im trying to do all this on a budget, so any ideas of ways to get some extra performance out of it would be great.
Im still on my P's so turbo is currently a no go :(

Also, if i do the extractors and exhaust, and then get it tuned. am i going to have to upgrade anything to be able to cope with the extra performance?

Thanks for any answers its much apreciated.

lower it and itll handle like an XR6 anyway :P same engine already
i reckon Subtle mods on BA's are the best, visually the right set of aftermarket tail lights, a set of wheels and lower it and your fairly set :) and tinted windows

Sports exhaust is a must on ANY car haha

Other than that i dont know alot, ive only recently gotten a BA XR6 so im learning too lol

What colour is your XT?

I agree, keep the wheels
any suspension shop can lower it, price will vary though.

1200bux for exhaust system, i managed to get mine for under 1k installed, all hurricane - headers right through to the tip. Took a lil while for it to bed in but sounds awesome now and really makes a difference to power. I lowered mine for about $350 - these were just low peddars springs and i organises it through my mate at Jax. I replaced the shocks later with Monroe GT Sports and i would definitely recommend it if you got the cash - made such a big improvement to handling along with the bigger/wider wheels. Once i have my modykit fully done, I will still have a few engine mods to go - cai, tune perhaps a few other things just not sure right now. I did actually work out how much i spent over time and i rather wish i didnt :P. I dont know about you but once you start you cant stop modding :P

I know this may sound like a downer but, have you had the suspension and brakes looked at ?
These two items are more important than BLING.

The rear end suspension has problems with bushes and maybe a better brake package? Something like 355mm front brakes and 328mm vented rears.
You can get these from wreckers second hand or from some of the brake companies new.

Hi does your car have a bit of a kit on the front lower bumper?
Looks different to the standard BA front bumper.

If you are on a budget have a look on the forums in the for sale section...

If you are lowering your car and just want lows, what about XR springs & shocks??
There are a host of bargains around on forums and in the for sale section if you want to keep the price down....

Ive only just passed 100k kms and just had a full service. they said the brakes and the suspension where sweet. Should i get a second opinion from a shokie and brake place?

So much you can do to a BA XT, but I think the "Keep It Simple" rule should apply or in no time at all you end up loosing control & spend way too much money. You will never get back what you put into it so it will be dead money..

But ...... I didn't listen either

Some nice big lip wheels & low profile rubber
lower it
Headers & sports Exhaust is a good move
Body Kit if you have the time & money to get it done properly
Even the cheapest ones will set you back well over $1000, & then unless you can do it yourself it will cost you another thousand plus to get them painted & fitted.
If I had my time over I would have sold the XT & bought an XR6 or a Turbo because it would have worked out cheaper for me.

XR bits can be had for a song if you are patient....

My car is full of XR goodies that people have upgraded to other parts and scored at the right price... Problem is people pay ridiculas amounts cos they want it now and brand new....

My car only had a XR Speedo in it when I got it (god knows why) and it has progressed from there....
