Hey guys,
Thinking about getting a reground wade cam in my EL Falcon. Just wondering if it would be worth going to the wreckers, getting rocker rack and cam, getting the cam reground, and then setting up the rockers with the shims etc all ready to go, so it's pretty much i just take the old cam and rack out, and put the new cam and rack in. The reason I say this is I want minimal down time on my car, as sometimes when installing these things, things pop up, and I need my car. So would this work? It makes sense to me, but maybe some of the more experienced could shed some light? Cheers Josh |

LOL no way, it takes like 5 minutes to pop out hla's, put the extra shim in and drop them back in.
Lotta work for no gain. |

I'd rather completely bleed and clean the rack / soak it and get all the s**t out of it before putting it back in the car... But still keep the opinions coming.

I wouldn't bother with getting another rocker gear assembly to be honest mate. As Krisisdog said, it doesn't take long to take lifters and shims out, clean out the rocker arm bores to make sure there is no crap in there, then pop everything back together with the extra shims ready to go back on.

if the engine is not rattling or anything like that,
i wouldnt bother pulling things appart to clean them you may create more work and problems than neccesary.. |

As everyone else had said...much easier to keep your current one unless your current one is damaged like I found out. Crack rocker arm where the lifter sits, but not enough for it to fall off.

As to your original question, If you havent got a spare cam yes get one from the wreckers and send it of to be reground, while you are at it get a set of lifter shims, you will need two shims per rocker to compensate for the reground cam. As most other people have said use your original rocker gear. Make sure you block the oil drain holes in the head that go through to the bottom end and tape your HLA's to the rockers before you completely remove the rocker gear. (after you have loosened all the rocker gear bollts).

Alrighty, so I was going to do what you guys said and just shim it as I go, but I jumped the gun and got myself a spare EL cam to regrind, without reading what type of head I have... turns out I have a Hybrid head - thus needing an AU cam.
So is it true that I can use an EL rocker gear, and the new reground cam? And just use the shims from the two racks I will have? I can get the rocker gear pretty damn cheap so it won't be too out of pocket for me. Cheers Josh |
