ok
i finally got around to doing the belt conversion.
it was fairly straight forward.

i had to modify the ef alternator bracket to fit the ef alternator onto the au engine.
i also had to change the alternator plug over
i ended up working out the aircon line issue i used the pump lines from a eb (thanks to benj) i had to bend one of the pipes alittle bit and i used the smaller line to the condensor from a ed with the ef tx valve.but i needed to drill out the small hole in the tx valve to 11mm on the firewall side to fit. as the ea has a slightly larger pipe coming from the heater box.
so now i just need to get the aircon regassed.

its now up and runnung but its sprung an oil leak from one of the timing case cover bolts which ill fix tomorrow as ive ran out of daylight..

here are a few pics.

Nice work Troyman

Boy, you really had to take a fair bit out of the Alt bracket.

You should enjoy the benefits of the bigger alt too with the fans and all.

I look forward to seeing it soon.

Cheers
BenJ

yea i would have used the au stuff but the aircon pump is different to e series so custon aircon lines would be needed..
and the price the wreckers want good au bits was almost as much as i paid for the whole engine..
plus at the moment the ef bits owe me nothing!

yea i hope the alt bracket holds up ok?
im fairly confident it wont crack.
i could have cut right through the bracket but i thought ill just remove what needed to be removed so it will keep some of the strength..

ben does your engine have the steel bar that runs from the front of the alternator to the timing case??
as the bolt that goes through the timing case is the one thats leaking oil at the moment..
i was thinking of leaving the steel bracket out as the bolt that is in there is to short to use with the steel bracket!

Troy.

My car has a metal bar that runs from the top bolt of the alternator up to the Power Steering bracket. Photo included.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

thanks ben.
i had it going to the one below that one..lol

ok back to it now i got to grind the lower spacers for the air con pump as the pump sits a few mm to far away and the belt just fits on when it is at maximum..
re-locate that steel support and put the bumper back on..

its almost ready to drive again..
but i have an issue with oil leaking from the lower front bolt on the power steering bracket.. its the bolt that runs through the top of the timing case.
ive packed the hole with silicone and i took it for a drive with no front end on it lol..
but its still leaking?
so ive removed the same bolt again cleaned as much of the oil out as i could and re packed the hole with and covered the bolt with silicone..

ill let it sit over night and see what happens??

on the up side ive noticed that the engine is quieter, its more responsive(less drag on the pullies?)the power steering is easier to steer for some reason?
and there is no more voltage loss when the thermo fans come on..
so other than the oil leak im very happy with the result..
i would recomend doing it to the ea/ed its a nice mod..

I think thats a case of everything-went-smoothly-when-you-had-the-car-to-bits-so-it-had-to-create-its-own-problem-itus.
Fairly common.

But yeah I think its a wait and see situation :?

EDIT: And woo about the extra power to the fans and powersteering :D
