hey guys had somethin weird happen this arvo when i got home, i pulled up turned the key back and pulled it out... the motor kept running :? put the key back in and pulled it out a few seconds later the motor turned off . i did have a borrowed trailer on the back im not sure if it might have somethin to do with it but yeah just wondering if anyone might have any suggestions as to what it could be :?:

sounds like she might of got a bit hot and the timing maybe over advanced which will cause it to run-on.

yeah it was abit hotter than usual but nothin too alarming

did you have your foot on the brake when it didn't stop but then release it and it did stop?

ok yeah i dont know how to check the timing will ask my old man

and yeah i think i had my foot on the brake just my habit till everythin has stopped moving lol

had a look at the thread and yeah my motor sits there idling happily away like normal
(funy part is every time i wash my car somethin goes wrong and yeah i washed it yesterday )

remember you have to get it in to diognostic mode to set the base timing and then set it at 10 degres at normal operating temp or even 9 if ure using standard unleaded if you using 98 you should b able to run 12 at least also air leaks def play a bg factor as mentioned with the booster wich is common along with the one way valve and the hose cracking get a vacc gaugge on it and see what the readins are at least 15-18 hg at idlle,

so it idles normally until it turned of or was it coughing and spluttering

first off.. what car are we talking about??
ea-ed timing is 10 deg btdc in diag mode..
ef is not adjustable..
and el is 0 deg /tdc in diag mode...

Hey mate,

I had the same problem in my EF. It turned out to be the ignition barrel was rooted and the wires were all crossed up.

Just something to keep in mind

if you had a trailer on and your foot on the brake they dont turn off for some reason until you release the brake pedal a mate of mine had a ED xr6 that did this and it was just the trailer plug at the back of the car

thanks guys it was most likely the trailer plug as i returned the trailer and it was fine

will also keep an eye on the barrel as i do have a fair few keys hangin off it
