yes it does change lift

i had that cam done with 112 degree lobes but that was a few years ago be damned if i can remember, but it did have a nice note.

when you do find out post back here........ my wild guess is 0.058" ....... or was it 0.075" :)

haha i found it !!!!

one of my old posts........ the answer is 0.084" @ TDC....... now you can get to work

just make sure your balancer mark is reading correct TDC, old ones the outer can shift and easily be out by a few degrees

Today i fitted a 1521a Wade cam, but ground with 112 degree lobe centres, and its f**k lumpy, cranky....misfires at part throttle even with a tuned chip, so gonna get it retuned soon.

Idle vid, though its hard to pickup the sound

im going to dial it in tommorrow. the spec sheet says..

"cam lift TDC"...... 084

so i dial in 84 thou lift at the rocker arm @ TDC......does that sound right? Every other cam ive had has been around 50 thou lift

just a question fordfairmont. saw in another post you explaining how to measure the lift at tdc. what exactly do you line the cam timing mark up with on the exhaust side before you go round to intake TDC?

thanks mate

thats the one im talking about!
where you say...

Turn the crank so the cam gear mark is on the exhaust side about to rise to the top of the head. Watch the dial gauge move from "0" and keep turning the crank until you see 0.063" on the gauge then stop. Does the TDC mark on the balancer line up with the pointer on the timing cover?

ah yeah little confusing, i was just stating when to start paying attention to the dial indicator, is when the cam gear mark starts apporaching level with the head on the exhaust side

the cam gear spins twice for every rotation of the balancer.

so do you put the dial indicator on at TDC and then do 2 full rotations?
im just a little confused where you get the start and finish measurements to compare the difference

the main point is you 100% sure you know where true TDC is or your wasting your time. Then basically all you have to worry about is making sure the dial indicator reads "0" while turning crank by hand right up until the point the number 1 intake rocker arm starts to move down on the TDC stroke cyl 1.... then you move crank slowly until you reach that specified lift point your looking for (0.084"). Stop and look where the crank is sitting. If the crank mark isnt lined up with the timing cover pointer, then loosen the adjustable cam gear allen key nuts and turn the crank slightly forward or back until the crank mark meets with the pointer on the timing cover. Then stop and tighten them up again, and spin crank right around and measure gain........ 4 times lol

a tip, always take the measurement after the crank has been turned clockwise. If you take it back, it will cause the chain to go slack and give a false reading if you know what i mean

once your happy with everything, go back and remove and apply blue loctite on each cam gear allen key nut one by one to make sure it doesnt move

So basically you set up the dial gauge when the intake valve is seated flat and as you rotate and get to 0.084 you stop and see if tdc is lined up?

yep setup dial gauge next to oil hole on intake rocker arm cyl1 as vertical as you can and make sure it reads "0" the whole time the rocker arm isnt moving so you know its stable.

Spin crank around by hand and when it comes around for TDC cylinder 1 take note of the dial gauge reading and keep turning until gauge reads 0.084" then stop. If balancer mark and timing cover pointer arent lined up down below, then loosen cam gear keys and move crank around to line up balancer & timing cover marks, and re-tighten.

then recheck my posts again to make sure you dont take readings while chain is slack
