Hi All
 ,First off, let me say that i know there has been many forums about this in the past, but, what i have noticed is that they are vague in some instances and some are contradicting. I have also searched through a few websites looking for a good tutorial. Now im sure there are many of us out there that want to give it ago but, just dont know where to start, do i cut the bonnet? do i screw it to the top? do i use bog or fibre glass filler? Let me get to my point i would like to start alittle "tutorial" topic on installing a bonnet buldge and hopefully by the end have a method which stands the test of time and all of us home project guys can get it done. So... has anyone out there done this and would like to share there method, pics would be appreciated. Ghiaed1994

I believe the issue is that depending on the builder, they prefer different products and methods. In addition to that, the method and products change depending on what material the proposed bulge is made out of. Is it plastic, fibreglass or steel? It makes a difference.
Other factors include what model Eseries bonnet you are intending to mod. Experience shows that EA/ED bonnets are made of thinner metal than the EF/EL Fairmont bonnets. This changes the approach that a builder may take. Now, I have shown how my bonnet was done in my build thread, but I would not attempt to write a tutorial to cover other examples. I encourage you to document how you go about your bonnet build, but any tutorial you write would be specific to the material of the bulge you use and the car you are modding. Good Luck!!! Cheers BenJ

Let me start off by saying thanks for being the only person to reply to my post  ok, so its alot more indepth then just 1 single tutorial. I have bought a fibreglass bonnet bulge from SSV in sydney and are attempting to install it on an ED falcon.I have read alot of tutorials but they more or less are 2 approaches. 1. Screw/Rivot bonnet bulge on top of bonnet, use fibre glass matting around join then bog and blend. 2. Cut top lip off bonnet, screw to cross frame underneath, then not very clear on what is done next but i can imagine that they would also use fibre glass matting to graft to bonnet (Maybe from the underside) then use filler to fill gap on topside. Both very different approaches and both with there pros and there cons. Also can you please post the link for your bonnet build. Regards Ghiaed

Mine is all metal, with the XB Scoops and bulge being welded in, and then Fibre Bog used to build up the correct levels.
My build thread is in my Signature. It is included in there somewhere. For what you want to do, I would suggest, screws or rivets to hold it in place in conjunction with and adhesive of some kind, and then Fibre bog across the join to get the correct level. At least you are prepared to have a go. BenJ

Ill have a read of your tutorial/build get some ideas. Thanks

Not long enough to tell yet.
Fella who did it said he's done other scoops the same way, and they've gone 10+ years without cracking.. so I dunno. |

Ive been looking through tutorial after tutorial, found a few methods which seem good and got information on a few products, bought a product that was recommended to me by a paint and panel shop (not going to name names here) but turns out he was an idiot.... Im in the processes of ordering a product, which will hopefully be here during the week, that was recommended by another shop and yeah i can start to put together a tutorial......

Cant you purchase EF/EL bonnets with the buldge pre-moulded into them?
I think they were fibreglass or carbon fibre from memory? Anyone else come across this sort of thing? It was a while ago i saw them advertised - theink they were about $800+ ??? Adz

Theres a few products that are actually made to do this exact task there is the FUSOR products and Terokal products that i know off. They are a sandable cross-bonding adhesive. I think something like that is the way to go for someone doing it themself.
