Gotta ask why you dont just throw a cam in your 6?

They noticeably more powerful? They've got a fair bit more torque. That's not why I'm considering it but it would be a a good by-product.

I'm going to give a place a call who specialise in various engine and gearbox conversions. See if they'd do it. They only charge $1250 to supply and fit an AU VCT engine to an EF so I can't imagine it'd be much more for a V8 conversion.

You will find that a stock HO Windsor (pre EL2 5L) will actually be slower than your stock 6. It's not worth doing unless you have a modded 5.0 to drop in.

buy a 5L wreck.
Would be able to get one for under $2k easy

swap as much as you can, might get lucky and find a wreck with extractors/sports exhaust

5L's rock... even slow ones.

as for legalities, they came out with 5L's, so its not an issue.

I've got 2 cars that have been converted from 6's to 5L's

Like I said up top... Just love the sound. Chucking a cam in my auto 6 will gain me a whopping 5, maybe 6kw. Then the next step would be getting a chip and tune, there's maybe another 10kw? So I'd have a 145 rwkw 6 cylinder auto falcon.... yay. You can't really use power on the road these days. There's no where in SA for legal drag racing or burnouts so having a powerful car is really kind of useless.

All I want is a car that's comfy, looks good, and sounds nice. A Falcon i6 sounds good as far as 6's go but V8s can't be beaten in sound.

Lol 5kw. You'll get more than 5kw from a half decent cam, and the exhaust note will change again.

its not that hard of a conversion, nor does it cost that much.
then he's still got the issue of swapping the rest of the gear over.

get a 5L wreck
swap over looms/motor/trans
sell the rest including your 4L s**t
???
profit

if you can get a manual 5L wreck, that would be most excellent.
ignore 4L fanbois, the faggots shouldn't even be in this forum.

love it.

Yeah find your self a ef 5.0 wreck and go to town, if ya can get hold of a fairy all the better, you'd possably end up infront if you parted out the stuff that you don't require.

you will need as everyone else has said
motor
trans
looms
zorst
rad lower cros over pipe.
you'll also have to extend your fuel lines of swap them over from a 5.0

Thanks for the help guys. It seems 5.0L E-series aren't the easiest things to come by in SA.

If I can find a complete one, wrecking or not, I'll grab it. But otherwise this can just be added to the "maybe one day" list...

The wade 1636 gives a 5kw boost with the happiest of dynos. I've seen it many a time. Going anything other than a Wade will mean a lot more $$$ and not much, if anything, more to show for it. My car being a standard auto with standy stally and ECU means I'm very very limited as to what cams I can use.

I've heard a 160rwkw EF running with a very lumpy cam and I will shoot the person that says it sounds as good as a V8.

Seen my car lately? There'd be more work in building another EF up to where mine is at the moment than there would be in changing mine to a V8

i cant say i have seen your car lately..
and fair enough! just saying its an option..
as if you found a nice v8 you could mix n match parts from your 6 into the 8..
but its your call..and is a doable option either way..
