Hey all,

Just curious to know how all the windsors you guys have out there like starting on cold mornings. Mine acts like a bit of a b**ch lately on cold mornings, idles fine for about 10 seconds then ISC kicks in and it starts getting a bit grumpy with idle and can sometimes stall. Once it warms up a tad it's fine though. Gonna get a new dyno and tune done soon so yeah, how does your engines go?

Tried swapping out the ISC for a new one, or cleaning your existing one?

Could also be IAT or ECT sensors.

Hold the revs up for 20-30 seconds or so, while it warms up? My TE does this standard.

Mine is a bit finicky but I do know if its due to cold morning or not as the engine hasn't seen summer the way its configured now.

It sits at about 1000rpm then slowly drops to 750rpm and is stable.

I think I might get a new ISC for it though.

Mine's exactly the same from factory, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Cold starts have been fine with the ute. Will idle at about 1100rpm for about 20secs then drop down to 900rpm where it will idle smoothly as per operating temp.
Sure it sounds a little grumpier when its cold, but hey, as said, thats the price you pay to have 230rwkw ;)

Mine does the same as yours s-tranzor. I'm thinking that my HEGOs are on the way out. It's worse on LPG though.

^^yeah im replacing my HEGOs aswell as they are of an unknown age. They wouldnt have an effect on cold idle though as they are ignored until they warm up. waiting for the 2nd one I ordered to arrive they only sent me one grrr grrr now have to wait till nxt week. Yeah I know it's just my grumpy 347 cam but still interesting to see how other people's engines fare. :) Oh Jeff, Im gonna up my idle to about where yours is I read in your ute thread on PES that you had a similar prob and fixed it by upping idle RPM to 900 or so mine currently lumps from 750rpm or so. Should help :)

I haven't driven mine for 3 weeks :(

When I was driving it, after work when I'd start it up and be taking my filthy clothes off, it would surge really badly. It would be just shy of stalling then rev up to about 1500 and keep doing that til I got in and gave it a few revs. It sounded mean but was annoying as crap. It never did that when warm though. I think richness is my problem though.

if the motor is stone cold initial start up the motor hunts between say 500-1200rpm once in a blue moon it will stall but thats very rare. normally takes about 20-30 sec for the revs to stay consistent.

Mines the same-but a small price to pay considering having a lumpy cam. :D

s-tranzor, its all in the tune.

my Fairmont's idle was up the s**t on cold starts and my cam was large enough to upset the ecu alot

Went and got a custom tune, and now the idle springs straight to 900rpm when hot or cold, you cant fault it. They also made the 'rev hang' disappear completely

i have noticed the last couple of weeks on cold starts my revs go straight to 1400rpm hang for bout 10secs then slowly drop down to normal, taking bout 20secs to get all the way down. i have been thinking wat i could do to fix it cos i'm sure cold revving it like that can't be a good thing.
and this is to an unmodded AU220

Mine hangs to 1100 rpm then kicks back down to 900ish rpm.

Needs a bit extra fuel to start up and that extra will get the revs higher, perhaps seem lumpier too.

I'd just go with it, if it gets worse then maybe get it sorted.
