G'day guys and gals,

Just after some advice with regards to tyres. Mine are getting pretty low, as is my wallet so I've started looking around for some cheaper tyres.

Came across a bloke selling "Austyres" for $110 each. I know they won't be amazing but has anyone had experience with these?

Any other cheap, yet decent tyres that people have come across here in Melbourne?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Alex

Yeah, I have 2 on the front of the AU as we speak, yes they will get you out of trouble. Don't put too much faith in them, and they are a bit noisy. But they are black and round as well priced for what they are.

what size wheels? I have Kumho KU19's on my car and they are great for the price. I think I paid $250 a tyre but that is for 235/35/19. Im sure 17's would be alot cheaper.

I payed $185ea for Khumo KU36's, and have payed $130 for KU31's. Both quite good tyres, the 36's more so.

I have Rotalla branded tyres in 235/45/17 and picked them up for under $100 each fitted and balanced.

Good for a daily driver, but are the weak point of my handling.

Cheers
BenJ

Looks like a fairly decent deal

Don't cheap out on tyres. Going with good rubber is the single biggest, cheapest, and easiest thing you can do to improve the handling, braking, and safety of your ride. Just buy smart. An extra $100-200 now will be long forgotten while you are still enjoying the extra performance.

I would strongly recommend against the Chinese "me too" brands (eg, Linglong) - Wheels magazine tested them, and they were rubbish. Go at least next level up (Kumho, Federal, GT Radial, etc). Also look for run-out specials on premium tyres. I bought Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s really cheap for both my XR6s on run-out (as the new Asymmetric was being launched), and they are top performing tyres. Now that the Asymmetric 2 is released, I have seen run-out deals on the original Asymmetric.

Yeah they aren't any good in the wet... at all!
Under normal circumstances its fine, as long as you know the limits of your cars handling with any given tyre. It is when unexpected sh*t happens, thats when they show thier faults.
I had a scary moment recently where I needed to brake quickly, and it was like being on ice. It honestly felt like the car would never pull up.
