that cluster looks tops in the ed dash.
mate you could probably make and sell those brackets although i don't know how many people are willing to take on this mod.
i haven't looked into it to it much but i think its harder for the eb/ed v8 crew to do this mod correct?

did you end up getting that interior led for the roof? howd it go?

Jaysway, the wiring mods for this would be the same for V8s as it is for 6s.

Cheers

hey benj

So as long as you sourced an EL V8 ecu its the same process?
would they be the same pins on the v8 ecu to the i6 ecu seeing the v8 ecu uses a separate trans controller?

cheers mate

Hi Jaysway,

Na mate there is no difference between the 8cyl and 6cyl EL series clusters... Only diff on the ED was the calibration of the tacho... On the EL series cluster you pick up off a pin in the ECU for the tacho, not the dizzy module like the ED... (Dizzy module isn't it?)

Thanks for the thoughts Ben, wiring shouldn't be too bad... Thats my thing  ... And the only reason I can sort of weld is because we have a MIG, I suck on a stick welder...

LED light is in, will get picks of it tonight... Works much better...

Cheers,
Tim

Jaysway,

Also now I have more time to reply while I'm not at work, The pin that makes the tach work is the Spout Pin, #36 on the 6cyl EEC-V

Only other dilemma that Ben was telling me about was that if your running an ED trip computer, you can no longer use the equivalent data pin (#34) in the EEC-V as its data is meant for the cluster, on the EL the data wire for the trip computer comes out of the cluster, and it wont work with the ED trip computer, so the trip computer data needs to come off pin 58 (Injectors 1,3,5?) in the EEC-V ecu was it Ben? This makes it accurate again... Or so I'm led to believe, not really sure how accurate the trip computer is anyway, so yeah...

I'll just go get that picture...

Cheers,
Tim

Thats good to hear... I think they are quite substantial too... SMD 5050's seem to be the best LED's on the market at present...

Cheers,
Tim

Hi There,

I have a factory 5 speed so I will see to it that they don't work...

In saying that, there is no input to trigger them, so it must be part of the data input pin which is fed from the EEC-V which does know where your transmission selector is so I'd near put my money on that being how it works...

Cheers,
Tim

Correct, the DATA line sends the gear position signal to the cluster. I had it working in my RED EB with the auto in it.

Tim, when I installed it in the Wagon with the T5, all I did was cut a piece of black plastic from a A4 Folder down to block the drive letters so you cant see them at all now.

Cheers
BenJ

Hi Ben,

Did it do something funny with the manual trans in? Just always showed "P" or something?

Does the data line do anything else? If not I might just not need to hook it up at all?

Cheers,
Tim

It always showed it as being in Neutral which would be a pain for anyone who got a manual trans from factory in their 4.0L fairlane or LTD

The ECU sees individually all positions on the Auto (P,R,N,D,etc) and shows two on a manual, in gear, or in neutral... Or so i thought...

Cheers,
Tim

Well when Ben put his in, he just covered up the Neutral symbol as it always showed up with the neutral light on.

Best to ask Ben just to make sure *calls out to BenJ the boxcar owner that has done this before*
