The other thing is, look at the rocker gear, if its black and caked on, its f**k, ei: excessive blow-by irregular oil changes.

Inspect the block, search for evidence of head gasket changes, (type of or marks on head bolts) If its a E series motor and you strike one with a MLS gasket, then your more than likely found one that's been serviced/maintained by a competent mechanic.

Don't always go by 'ohh this is clean inside' WOAH SPOTLESS, cos' its prolly been on gas and rooted.

if your that concerned take a compression tester and again borrow a battery and crank it!

f**k wreckers down there must suck balls, most cars up here in wreckers have the k's either written on the engine or the cluster face.

Yes, with a premium price.
iirc: Board price is like $120ish for a engine and $158 with warranty

Remember a bare motor is a Long motor is just block and head no acc.

UDATE:

yesterday i got the second hand motor from 'Harveys' wreckers and did the swap,
the car now runs, the idle is much better than my engine as in it is smoother but the power is greatly noticable as in "lack of power" i miss my motor already but at least now im mobile and i shall get into the motor to find the problem

Well, mate, at least you are mobile.

Lets hope you can sort out the motor issues.

CONS:
the car is sluggish and worse than ever (acceleration and response wise) i believe this is due to non existant cam, non bored out, not decked and running a 2500 rpm torque converter without the matching cam

PROS:
idle is much smoother temperature is lower

the other donk was all matching while this 1 is a stock motor with high ratio diff gears runs good as a cruise car tho

hey guys, been layin low lately since work has been insanely busy. anyways thought i might update the progress.

second hand engine is running well, still not as responsive but it feels as tho the more i drive in the better it gets...

one new problem has popped up tho, every time i turn left with any less than about 3/4 tank of fuel she completely loses power for a second or 2 and then kicks in again, im leaning towards baffles... can any1 talk me out of it before i replace the tank??

Also check that the battery is mounted. I rmember a tale about something similar, and the battery was moving and arcing out, causing a complete loss of power until in a straight line again
