great work smithy, joined to see all of your pics after a page or two of reading. I'll be checking back here pretty regularly i think! I'm a tad closer to attempting to put a ba engine/gearbox? in my xg now, cant wait to see how it all comes together. Cheers. Ewen

Hi Smithy

Watching with great interest still. I would love to do the twin cam conversion BUT have a look at my age. Electronics just do my head in. This is the first car i have really mucked around with since I was in my early 20s. Give me cams carbys valve regrinds etc and i can do it with my eyes closed. Electronics though just send me into a blind rage with bits of wiring etc flying around the shed still trying to grasp the compexities of doing some heas work on the NF gotta get a mod chip just to do this. So with the quality of your post I will be watching with great interest and I hope you don't mind someone copying what you do. I plan to do most myself as its just something to spend some time on. My daughter originally bought it for herself but found it to feral hence "fezlane" so i bought her a crappy excel and we swapped. Slowly being doing it up since. Dropped a set of ultralows in it yesterday driving to work this morning threw a big rock up and put a massive hole in the auto sump ah well something to do tomorrow. Eagerly awaiting new posts.

This is an amazing build Smithy to say the least!

I fitted a Plexis Purple full XR6 interior to my BA & I'm going to fit the original BA seats in the ED so very interested to see the way you fitted that inside rear leg of the seat & if it all worked out!
Do you have pics of that?

Smithy mate, magic. Just spent the past 2 hours reading through all the detailed posts you've put up, and the dialogue between you and others (such as XR-lane). The whole lot's awesome.
It's a thread of epic proportions! But it's been brought down to mere mortal levels so us laymen can read and understand wtf goes on in such a big build :D Appreciate and respect what you've done!
keep it going, not far off now, although honestly i dont know if i want to see you finish, it's too damned entertaining and interesting to read!

the only downside of this thread is that i now want to rip the dash out of my EL... which for a guy of my (lack of) abilities could be dangerous lol

keep it coming

p.s. any updates for November??

with regards to that rear shelf...

You'll want to either get that engineered or hide the subwoofer...

cops will be all over that since it's impossible to hide the big chunk of steel taken out..

when I worked in the industry, it was common to hear of cops busting people for 12's and 15's cut into their shelfs...

yeah.... it's designed to have an 8 inch bolted under it from factory... The rear shelf is considered a structural member so it won't pass rego unless that is engineered or hidden.

yep the parcel shelf is a structial part of the car i found out the hard way with my last car the guy who had it befor me cut the parcel shelf the fit a 15 inch subwoofer and i bught the car not thinking about it and got pulled over and defected for it.

so frankieh is 100% on the money.

umm... why is everyone sookin over the parcel shelf.

in order to be legal you'd need to engineer the BA motor too..

yeah... the kframe mods and engine/dash transplant too, but I doubt most cops are all that knowledgable about what factory boxcar engines look like so the are unlikely to know the kframe had been modded..

rear shelf on the other hand is something they will all know. Even if you reinforce it.. at least in WA they won't accept it unless it comes with an engineering cert.

When I worked for strathfield many moons ago... I saw a VK sedan cut for 2 15 inch woofers..
when you opened the boot the whole back flexed with it...
