Interesting, Tristram.
I've seen a modified ECU before, from a Herrod supercharged EF. It had modified timing tables only. The only way to do this would be to desolder the flash ROM, reprogram it and reinstall it. I guess someone at Ford reused development ECUs and reflashed them with newer strategies? Cheers, Jason

I have an EB series 1 xr8
The car is a manual.. from your codes on page 1 it should be an auto right? the J3 port is open and looks like it has seen some action once apon a time? also has a uni chip attached.

Cheers, Jason Neither of the ecu's were electronically modified Jason, except with a ball point pen on the stickers. Someone had carefully changed the box code from a version B to a version D (4DEB to 4DED, $DKB to 4DKD), and the binaries didn't have that "Copyright Ford Motor Company" and the strategy version written into the code. Interestingly, the duplicate checksum at 1200A-B was also missing from the code of both of the ecus. All other EF-EL ecus I've read have all these features. The 4DEB "active" code however was identical to the 4DED, I didn't have an early 4DKD code to compare the other one with, but I would guess it's the same situation. I'm only guessing that these may have been pre-release versions. When was the EF launched? My references say Sept 94, these ecus were both programmed in April. This is an unusually long time to sit around in my experience

If you are using the 1DGA on a manual, you are in "torque truncation mode" aka transmission protection mode. The auto ecu's all need a tcm signal to avoid this. Without the signal about 10 degrees of timing is dropped to protect the auto transmission from damage. A carry over from the weak AOD trans fitted behind 5.0's in USA Lift the bonnet, look on the passengers side close to the gas strut. There should be a white sticker about 20 x 25mm. It will give the code of the original ecu fitted to the vehicle. Series 1 XR8's got 1DGA = auto, 1DFA = manual. Check the body tags, it will also list the transmission type originally fitted to the vehicle. Maybe someone converted auto to manual???

Sorry if this has already been answered, but whats the difference between a 6TBB (police spec EL xr6) to a normal xr6? Are there any differences in the actually car specs? thanks |

s**t f**k all difference. XR6 & chaser mapping similar. But police has no speed limiter (not handy) and will keep the auto from shifting into 4th under 80km/h (again, not handy)

Hi all, my 1996 EL Fairmont has the following Ford falcon ecu type- 6DDA
96DA-12A650-DA I see this one is not on the list, it must have been the first production run for the EL Fairmont as there is a 6DDB on the list |

Don't wanna drag up the catch code question again; rather want to know for sure whether or not the ecu maps themselves are any different........
That is; in my case: stock '95 XG ute, code 3DAC(i think; i double checked last nite but did not write down!). What, if any, behavioural differences would be noticed with an ED XR6 ecu in an XG ute; speciffically in my case, an XG wagon XR6 ecu(code 3TAA; 93DT-12A650-AA) versus a sedan XR6, versus ute XR6 com pared to my stock one? I mean like throttle response, fuel economy etc.. Diff matters, of course.... Mine is 3.27. I want to know for me but i think this would make an interesting data base next to the catch code lists.... Cheers for any help. |
