hey guys i have a knocking sound coming from the RH Rear of my ef sedan. all started when i came out of the cinemas to drive home when it had been raining for a while and continued on the way home. this is the first time i had heard this sound. anyhow, me and a mate decided to sus it out and check the mounting points of the shocker and neither were loose. we checked by jumping up and down on the towbar. the sound only happens when the shock travels outwards or when the rear of the car is going up. and is slowly happening more and more when driving.

not overly concerned but some info would be great.

car has low springs in the back and shocks are monroe GT Gas

Possible that the lower shock bolt is loose. It will make a knocking sound only when moving, you need to do them up stupidly tight.

+1 for lower shocker bolt

Also it's as if it's speed sensitive. As if my wheels are out of balance. Will sus out that bolt though and will report back because come to think of it, it could be a posibility.

How old are the shocks? Ages ago when I had standard springs then went to lowered springs but kept the same shocks, one of my shocks also seemed to knock and I proved it by lifting the car up and down on that side. Replaced the shocks and it was all good. My shocks probably needed replacing at the time anyway, but also because I went to lower suspension, the shocks were probably use to standard height for such a long period of time and that made them faulty.

it was what i and others thought, lower shocker bolt had a bit more in it. as for the shocker, its only been in for about 20,000 to 30,000. not that old really. probably not even that.
