s**t. really? thats why i'm asking. why do people assume that mechanics must know everything about cars. including performance stuff. you get taught about just the basic stuff and unless you work at a performance joint most likely the cars you are working on are basicly stock

i think anything bigger than 2500 in a 6cyl is pretty stupid. the stroke size on the straight 6's are massive they dont rev fast enough. even with a decent size cam, 3000rpm is overkill. and unless your running low diff gears (3.7,3.9 or 4.11's) your defeating the purpose of putting a stall in. it will fight to launch.

How did you come to that conclusion? If you've got a decent cam that comes on hard from 3k up, thats where you want the stallie. Its the same as letting a clutch out in a manual at 2k then flooring it, or trying it 1000rpm later.... which do you think will be quicker?
You really should fit a decent sized trans cooler with any sized stallie... heck even on stock autos its not a bad idea.

SUPERSTOCKEB, you work in the automotive industry - you should be able to hustle up some info yourself regarding stallies, and this site has a few threads on them. You even said you'd disregard what the trans shop tells you, top attitude you've got.

I swear I read something a few weeks ago about a guy running a 4000rpm stally...reckoned lock up was still working as well....

f**k you're in the industry?
Do you run parts for supercheap or something.

Man all you haveto do is ask for THE VERY WILDEST stallie you can and they'll fix you up.
But like I said. Talk to a trans specialist. Not a mechinic ffs.

Ill put a pic of my car up later. But its a white lowered eb with side skirts and 18s. s**t sound famila. Your car. Without a wild boot garnish.

Not necessarily, you can get hi-stalls which retain the lock up feature

im just tellin you from experiance building 6cyl's. the stroke size is so long compared to an 8, and vertical....and havin a 3000 stall and having a manual and dumpin the clutch at 3000 is not the same! especially with a lockup (B&M and Dominator are the worst for hard lockups) the auto's loose so much power, compared to the manuals. how big cam can you get for a 6cyl falcon anyway? i doubt you can get anything over 960thou lift. where running a 960roller in a bigblock ford powered capri making 950hp, and that is only running a 5000rmp stall, and 4.88diff gears. it is set up perfect. i no its a v8 and its different but, i doubt your six is making that much power it needs a 3000stall. unless it was tubo/charged makin decent number, and had a nice low diff gear.

im not sure what your on about

ive had a couple medium size cams in my EF I6, and they made peak torque at 3500rpm

ideal stall is within 700rpm of peak torque....... i ran a 2800rpm stall and the car woke up heaps when launching

you do know your plates don't have to be just about your car. so maybe you should check to see if tool is available for yourself?
